ADHD Cases On The Rise Among Children

Diagnosed cases of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are on the rise.  A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study shows 11% of children between the ages of four and 17 are diagnosed with A.D.H.D.  That's a 16% increase since 2007 and a 5% jump over the last decade.  The "New York Times" reports roughly 2/3 of children who are diagnosed are prescribed medication.

While drugs like Adderall and Ritalin can help many children deal with symptoms, they can also lead to addiction, heightened anxiety and even psychotic disorders.  The CDC is worried that many prescriptions are unnecessary and could lead to abuse.
